Although he spent the last 30 years of his life in Berkeley, California, blues singer-guitarist K.C. Douglas (1913-1975) kept his musical feet firmly planted in his native Mississippi, where he had received early musical pointers from the legendary Tommy Johnson. For this 1961 album, his second for Prestige/Bluesville, Douglas reprised two of Johnson's best-known numbers: "Big Road Blues" and "Canned Heat." Other selections were drawn from the repertoires of such artists as Big Bill Broonzy, Jim Jackson, and Tommy McClennan. Dougles placed a poignant personal stamp, marked by warm baritone vocals and fleet guitar picking, on each.
