New Orleans–born guitarist Lonnie Johnson was perhaps the only musician to have been a pioneering major influence in both the jazz and blues fields. He was as at home in the company of Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington as he was accompanying blues singers and crooning the blues himself. This relaxed, haunting April 5, 1960 set of blues and sentimental songs with rhythm guitarist Elmer Snowden, the man who first brought Ellington to New York, is one of the most deeply personal of Johnson's prolific 40-year recording career.
