Bright And Breezy
Red Garland Trio
Red Garland first came to prominence as the pianist in the original mid-1950s Miles Davis Quintet and in many collaborations on Prestige with his friend John Coltrane (represented on numerous OJC reissues), as well as quite a few albums of is own. At the end of his career, he returned from virtual retirement in his hometown of Dallas for some late-Seventies Galaxy recordings. Among the stops in between was a little-known period of activity for Riverside's Jazzland label that began with this lyrical 1961 date, which includes a rare teaming of Red with the great bassist Sam Jones, along with drummer Charlie Persip.
