Tony Bennett Sings the Rodgers & Hart Songbook is an undervalued gem in the glittering discography of the superlative vocalist, whose career on record stretches back to 1950. Perhaps one reason why this collection has been overlooked is because its contents were initially released (in 1976 and 1977) on two LPs for Bennett’s small, independent jazz label Improv, before being deleted. In 2004, Concord Records brought the Bennett/Rodgers & Hart collection back as part of a four-disc set (Tony Bennett The Complete Improv Recordings). Now it's available in a sublime 26-song, single-disc package that contains six alternate takes.
