John Patitucci has long been famous for his electric bass wizardry, having come to prominence as part of Chick Corea's Elektric Band. However, as 1997's One More Angel and his Imprint releases show, he is also one of the world's finest on acoustic bass in addition to being a talented composer and bandleader.

For Imprint, Patitucci gathered together an impressive all-star cast of players, all of whom he is quite familiar with. "I knew that I wanted to use Jack DeJohnette. He's a fantastic musician of course, an amazing stylist and his personality on his instrument is immediately recognizable. I also wanted to explore some Afro-Cuban music so “El Negro” (Horacio Hernandez) was a logical choice to play drums on the other numbers. I've been wanting to work with Giovanni Hidalgo, a virtuoso on conga, since I heard him years back. John Beasley has played piano in bands of mine ever since I started having groups. Danilo Perez, another great pianist, and I have been working a lot recently with Roy Haynes. Chris Potter, a young giant, has been with me on and off for awhile and Mark Turner is a new addition to my groups. He has a wonderfully personal voice and a unique sound; a very interesting player with a lot to say."
