Roberto Perera, the musical pioneer who first introduced the jazz world to the Paraguayan harp, will greet the new millennium with the release of his seventh recording, In The Mood (HUCD 3049). The new enhanced cd, his sixth release for Cleveland-based Heads Up International.
Perera, internationally recognized for his unique performance technique and his creative fusion of jazz, pop, Latin and Afro-Caribbean sounds, takes yet another fresh approach on the contemporary ten-song set. Three of the album tracks were composed by the Uruguayan harpist, while most of the remainder were contributed by guest performer/producers Tim Redfield on keyboards and guitarists Peter White and Marc Antoine. Other In The Mood musicians include guitarist Richard Smith, flügel hornist Tony Guerrero, saxophonist Greg Vail, bassist Tom Lilly, drummer Dave Hooper, and percussionists Scott Breadman and John Mahon.

Described by Perera as his "most enjoyable, unique and challenging project to date, "In The Mood traverses a wide range of musical emotions and rhythms, ranging from the urban-edged "A La Mode" to the contagious samba, "Joia" and from the seductive, Spanish-flavored "Six A.M." to the hypnotic anthem, "Free Fall."

Since the 1990 release of his Epic Records debut, Erotica (now released on Heads Up HUCD 3041), Roberto Perera has been named a "Favorite Jazz Artist" numerous times by the annual Jazziz magazine reader's poll. His second Heads Up release, Dreams & Desires (HUCD 3018), won the Billboard "Contemporary Latin Jazz Album of the Year" award in 1993.
