Among Benny Carter's triumphs in music, his 1977 tour of Japan holds a place of distinction. Leading a ten-piece band made up of musicians handpicked from the élite of the New York and Los Angeles jazz communities, Carter played to loud acclaim in several cities. The tour culminated in a Tokyo concert whose audience gave their hero what he said was the greatest reception of his career. It is clear from this recording of that concert that Carter and his all-stars deserved every decibel of acclaim. Budd Johnson, Joe Newman, Cat Anderson, and Cecil Payne are among the soloists.

with Budd Johnson, Cecil Payne, Britt Woodman, Cat Anderson, Joe Newman, Nat Pierce, Mundell Lowe, George Duvivier, Harold Jones
