Willie Bobo was one of the great Latin percussionists of his time, a relentless swinger on the congas and timbales, a flamboyant showman onstage, and an engaging if modestly endowed singer. He passed away in 1983.

Sometime in the mid 90s, Willie Bobo’s son, Eric Bobo (conga player who’s toured and recorded with hip hop supergroup Cypress Hill since the early 90s) teamed up with producer Mario C. (most famous for his seminal work with the Beastie Boys) to sort through piles of his father’s reel to reel tapes which he discovered one day in his mother’s closet. The result? Hours of unreleased recordings from Willie Bobo’s heyday – including alternate takes of “Broasted or Fried,” “Soul Foo Young” & “Dindi” (a Bobo favorite and Jobim classic). These versions (recorded in the early 70s) – tastefully blessed and mastered by Mario C. from the original multitrack tapes – hit harder, and present these tunes anew.
