Meet Me Where They Play The Blues
Maria Muldaur
With a voice that continues to ripen with age, the versatile Maria Muldaur sings with heart, soul and grit on Meet Me Where They Play the Blues. Dedicated to the incomparable pianist/vocalist Charles Brown, this disc features the last recorded appearance by the inventor of the "West Coast Blues."
This newest release was self-produced and recorded in October 1998 at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California. Too ill to make it into the studio, Charles Brown's vocals on "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You" were recorded from his bed at a nursing home. In fact, Muldaur had originally chosen many of the songs for this project with Brown's piano playing in mind. The music and spirit of this great, Texas blues-balladeer live on through this amazing project.
Best known for her seductive, 1974 hit "Midnight at the Oasis," Maria Muldaur has always enjoyed great success on the blues and roots circuit. On Meet Me Where They Play the Blues, Maria has no problem continuing her travels through American music.
