Mozart: Don Giovanni (Highlights)
Sir Charles Mackerras & Scottish Chamber Orchestra
Telarc releases the highlights of its fourth recording in a series of Mozart's operatic masterpieces conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras. Previous releases have been of Cosi fan tutte, The Marriage of Figaro, and The Magic Flute. The complete recording of Don Giovanni (3CD-80420) was released in August 1996. As with the previous three Mozart performances on Telarc, this release was recorded following live performances at Scotland's Edinburgh Festival, where each year, Sir Charles leads the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Chorus, and an outstanding cast of singers in a celebrated opera.
While Sir Charles is well known for his scholarly and insightful interpretations of Mozart's scores, this single CD of highlights from Don Giovanni also displays the wealth of singing talent that he has assembled to bring the opera to life. Included on this CD are all the best known arias and ensembles from both Acts I and II.
