Sonny Rollins is almost as famous for his absences as for his many achievements. Following his late-1950s withdrawal from the scene came a renewed burst of activity; a second sabbatical came to an end in 1972 with the whimsically-titled Next Album, which launched a still-continuing relationship with the Fantasy group's Milestone label. This auspicious return to action finds Rollins in transition: Bob Cranshaw had been in his first Sixties band; George Cables is heard on both electric and acoustic piano; there is funky music, a joyful calypso, and a pair of notable standard compositions.

with George Cables, Bob Cranshaw, Jack DeJohnette, David Lee, Arthur Jenkins
