The Tokyo Concert
Bill Evans
It is only fitting that Bill Evans began his important 1970s Fantasy affiliation with a live recording made in Japan, where he was (and continues to be) held in the highest esteem. Moreover, some of Evans's most significant albums throughout his career have been recorded in performance–at the Village Vanguard, the Montreux Jazz Festival, etc.
This recording features one of the great Evans trios (bassist Eddie Gomez, drummer Marty Morell). Their January 1973 Tokyo concert presented here in its entirety was, as described by producer Helen Keane, a "perfect one."
with Eddie Gomez, Marty Morell
