The Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis Cookbook, Vol. 3
Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis With Shirley Scott
Like the rest of the albums in this series (OJCCDs 652, 653, and 705), this volume of the Lockjaw Davis Cookbook manages to be deeply soulful and out of the usual organ-tenor mold. With major assists from Shirley Scott’s spry and subtle Hammond B-3 and the various instruments of second horn Jerome Richardson, Davis is able to set a sumptuous table of ballads and blues. His versions of the standards “Lucky So and So” and “My Old Flame” are typically heart-on-sleeve, and “Simmerin’” is an example of the leisurely blues groove that became a chef-d’oeuvre of the Cookbooks.
with Jerome Richardson, George Duvivier, Arthur Edgehill
