Eddie Floyd has been making records for more than 40 years, but it was during the decade he spent at Stax Records in Memphis that he enjoyed his most consistent string of hits, beginning with 1966’s hard-sockin’ “Knock on Wood.” That and many of the Montgomery, Alabama singer-songwriter’s most successful Stax sides are contained in this compact disc, along with his distinctive covers of several soul hits of the late Sixties, two powerful duets with Mavis Staples, and “Big Bird,” a 1968 lament about Otis Redding’s death and a compelling foray into rock territory with co-composer Booker T. Jones. Supplying Floyd with cooking instrumental fuel throughout is the classic combination of the Mgs and the Memphis Horns.

with Booker T. Jones, Steve Cropper, Donald "Duck" Dunn, Al Jackson, Jr., Isaac Hayes, the Mar-Key Horns (Wayne Jackson, Andrew Love), Ben Cauley, Joe Arnold, Ed Logan
