The great interest of white teenagers in teenage African-American blues shouter Lloyd Price's mammoth 1952 rhythm 'n' blues hit "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" was among the first indications to the record industry that a new cultural phenomenon was about to explode. That new movement soon became known as rock 'n' roll, and "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" and such other hits for Specialty Records of Hollywood as Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti" played pivotal roles in its onslaught. Now, for the first time on a single CD, those and 18 other Specialty R&B smashes of the immediate pre-rock and early rock 'n' roll eras are brought together in one rippin', rockin' retrospective.
