Michael Bloomfield (1943-1981) was the first guitar slinger hero of the American baby boomer generation. His success helped open concert stage venues to Chitlin' Circuit veterans like B.B. King and paved the way for fellow icons Eric Clapton, Roy Buchanan, Johnny Winter, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
The tunes on this CD, from the later stages of Bloomfield's tragically brief life and career, showcase his versatility running the gamut from mellow, introspective Mississippi John Hurt style solo fingerpicking through rockin' Scrapper Blackwell style acoustic flatpicking to the crisp, soulful electric leads he's mostly remembered for.
Michigan Water Blues, Frankie and Johnny, Mr. Johnson and Mr. Dunn, Your Friends, Hitch-Hike on the Possum Trot Line, Between the Hard Place and the Ground, Pleading Blues, Papa-Mama-Rompah-Stompah, Effinonna Rag, Orphan's Blues, The Gospel Truth, See That My Grave Is Kept Clean
with Mark Naftalin, Woody Herman, Sal Nistico, Bob Jones, Little Brother Montgomery, Roger Troy, and others
