As part of a series of selected CD releases from Marian McPartland’s Peadbody Award-winning Piano Jazz radio show, as heard on National Public Radio, bebop trumpet legend and composer, Dizzy Gillespie, joins Marian for a joyful hour of conversation and music-making.

An innovative and exciting trumpet player, the late John Birks Gillespie will be remembered even more for his part in altering the course of jazz music. Diz obviously enjoyed this hour spent with Marian in which they played duets and discussed, amongst many other things, his association with such musical dignitaries as Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk and Chano Pozo. Dizzy also shares numerous musical insights of his own, including tips on how to develop good rhythm and his unique way of giving forward momentum to major-key chord progressions.

Whether sharing his musical secrets in conversation, blowing his trumpet, or playing the piano, Dizzy Gillespie is a fascinating, uniquely talented man and this CD presents us with a rare insight into his music and his thoughts.
