Popular as a singer of middle-of-the-road songs and novelty hits in the ‘50s, Rosemary Clooney truly hit and maintained her artistic stride—and garnered the critical acclaim she so richly deserved—during the last quarter century of her career and life. Not coincidentally, these are the years in which Rosemary recorded on the Concord label, where she was given the freedom to flourish as one of the finest interpreters of the Great American Songbook. From her triumphant comeback album in 1977 (Everything’s Coming Up Rosie) through her final concert and recording in November 2001 (The Last Concert), Rosemary Clooney’s inimitable way with a lyric, her relaxed, conversational phrasing, her distinctive voice, and her impeccable musical taste more than made this “girl singer” from Kentucky one of the best friends a song could have. Concord Records is proud to have documented such a remarkable recorded legacy and we are delighted to present this very special collection of highlights from Rosemary’s Concord years.
