A soul jazz icon and influential master of the Hammond B-3 organ, the late Brother Jack McDuff will long be remembered as one of jazz’s most soulful and unique organ stylists. Collected here are some of Brother Jack’s very best recordings from his years on the Concord Jazz label, spanning the last decade of his life and career in music.
In this special 2-CD retrospective, Brother Jack is featured not only fronting his fiery, hard-swinging band (boasting stalwart band members such as Andrew Beals, Joe Dukes, John Hart, Rudy Petschauer, and Gerry Weldon), but also tearing it up in the company of some very special guests, including George Benson, Joey DeFrancesco, Gene Harris, Red Holloway, Pat Martino, Grady Tate, and others.
Right up ‘til the very end, Brother Jack McDuff always had plenty to say each time he sat down at the Hammond B-3 to play his signature, blues-drenched, feel-good brand of music—and he always found the most creative, soulful and funky ways of saying it.
