Ella Fitzgerald is the singer and the song. During the course of her illustrious half-century reign on the world stage, she established herself as “the greatest all-round singer in the history of jazz” (as annotator Benny Green writes herein), focusing her peerless artistry on the jazz and popular standards of our times and in the process making them entirely her own.

Ella’s longtime producer and manager Norman Granz recorded concerts with the singer throughout her distinguished career. This four-disc package is a distillation of the best of those live recordings--with the Basie and Ellington big bands and with her trios, spanning the globe and the decades (1953-83). It goes without saying that Ella Fitzgerald’s best performances are unforgettable indeed.

Produced by Eric Miller
