Under the vision and leadership of Israeli composer/pianist/bassist Avishai Cohen, comes Unity, the mesmerizing debut project from The International Vamp Band. Uniting musicians from four different countries—Israel, Cuba, Argentina, and Mexico—Avishai Cohen & The International Vamp Band merge kaleidoscopic rhythms and global musical cultures into an incendiary musical vision. Best-known as the acoustic bassist from Chick Corea’s Origin and New Trio groups, Cohen—in The International Vamp band—chooses his first instrument, the piano, as his primary vehicle of expression. With the disparate-yet-complimentary musical influences of trumpeter Diego Urcola (Argentina), drummer/percussionist Antonio Sanchez (Mexico), saxophonist and chekeré player Yosvany Terry (Cuba), trombonist Avi Lebovich (Israel), bassist Yagil Baras (Israel), and the multifarious Avishai Cohen, jazz, Latin, and Middle Eastern sounds collude in a relentlessly grooving, refreshingly new music.
