Back in the 70s, Zoot Sims found a home on the Pablo label, and he never sounded better. His melted butter tone is achingly gorgeous on this 1978 session with pianist Jimmy Rowles, who seemed to gravitate towards guys like this (he also played for Getz). Along with the sympathetic and gentle support of George Mraz/b and Mousie (don’t ask) Alexander, they give understated and delicate readings of late night tunes such as “Dream Dancing,D “You Go To My Head” and “Comes Love.” This is the ultimate late night disc for sitting in the easy chair and reflecting on the time gone by. Absolutely essential.
with George Mraz, Mousey Alexander
Recorded September 18 & 19, 1978.
