While the classic Live Wire/Blues Power album was made up primarily of tunes Albert King hadn't recorded previously, this disc (recorded during the same June 1968 Fillmore Auditorium engagement from which the material on Live Wire was culled) features him performing some of his biggest hits, including "Don't Throw Your Love on Me So Strong," the slow blues that first brought him to national attention back in 1961. The psychedelic San Francisco rock scene, which promoter Bill Graham had introduced King to only four months earlier, was a far cry from anything the then-44-year-old musician had encountered on the blues circuit, yet King took to the young white crowd as comfortably as it took to him.
