During August 1961, Gene Ammons and Sonny Stitt re-established their partnership of the previous decade by recording two albums with the same rhythm section. One, Boss Tenors, appeared on Verve (Stitt's home label at the time) and met with wide acclaim; yet for some reason the present, equally exciting companion set was not released for seven years. If anything, We'll Be Together Again gives a more complete picture of the Ammons/Stitt team, with its greater variety of material. Choose a favorite if you must (Ammons solos first on each track), but this tenor battle must be rated a glorious draw.
