ABOUT ANN HAMPTON CALLAWAY

Ann Hampton Callaway

Jazz singer/songwriter Ann Hampton Callaway, whose musical credits include pianist, composer, lyricist, arranger, Broadway performer and educator, joined Telarc in 2006 with the summer release of Blues in the Night.

In a career that spans nearly fifteen years, Callaway has been bringing fresh and original interpretations to the great American songbook. Separate and apart from her acclaimed body of recorded work, she has become a favorite in the jazz and pops concert circuit, appearing as special guest artist with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops. She has sung with more than 25 of the nation’s top orchestras and big bands, and has performed in tributes to Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and Harold Arlen at Carnegie Hall. These and other achievements have prompted The New York Times to proclaim: “For sheer vocal beauty, no contemporary singer matches Ms. Callaway.”

“Ann Hampton Callaway is a shining gem in the world of vocal jazz,” says Elaine Martone, executive vice president of Telarc and producer of Blues in the Night. “She is a gifted songwriter and a charming, intelligent and funny entertainer with a huge heart. She has the utmost respect for the American jazz tradition, and she is committed to upholding that tradition in all aspects of her career -- as a performer, as a composer and beyond. That commitment is apparent in every note she writes and every note she sings.”
