ABOUT JEANIE BRYSON

Jeanie Bryson is an extraordinary singer - uniquely talented, assuredly poised and blessed with an unmistakably original voice that is smooth, hypnotic and exciting. Her singing reveals a rich musical and cultural diversity which reflects her musical upbringing.

Jeanie is the daughter of songwriter Connie Bryson and the late jazz giant Dizzy Gillespie. She has inherited a strong sense of lyric and storytelling in music from her mother whose songs Jeanie often performs. Possessing a natural affinity for Latin American music, she learned a great deal from studying her father's rhythmic sensibilities.

Jeanie Bryson studied ethnomusicology at Livingston College, a division of Rutgers University. While at school with Kenny Barron, she began to be increasingly influenced by jazz.

Jeanie's distinct and authentic sound have landed her solo gigs at numerous clubs in the New York area including Fat Tuesday's, The Blue Note and Birdland. Jeanie is also the vocalist of choice for such popular artists as Grover Washington Jr. and Terence Blanchard. A guest artist on both of their current recordings, Jeanie also performs with them. Her most recent show with Washington was an appearance at The Blue Note. For several months in 1994 she toured throughout the world with Terence Blanchard - playing major cities and festivals from New York to Stockholm.

Since her debut album, I Love Being Here With You, on Telarc, Jeanie has received an enormous amount of attention from the national press. Features were present in USA Today, The New York Times and The Washington Post. Her second release, Tonight I Need You So, showcases Jeanie's versatility with a combination of jazz standards, pop singles and Latin tunes. Here she is accompanied by an array of talent including Christian McBride and Paquito D'Rivera.
