ABOUT STEFAN DICKERSON
Stefán Dickerson's prowess in the classical realm earned him a scholarship to the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, where he absorbed the influences of seminar conductors Michel Legrand and Claus Ogerman. As proficient as he was at performing and studying in the very regimented classical program there, Stefán would spend his free time experimenting with other forms, and as a teenager realized that "it was important to work on my composing skills - I needed to create. I knew I couldn't be totally happy just playing the music of others all my life."
His success as a musical scholar continued with a scholarship to the famed Julliard School of Music where he also focused on classical music while playing jazz around the New York club scene. Impressed with his work, Henry Mancini suggested the young pianist try his luck in Los Angeles, and for several years Dickerson was bi-coastal, doing session work out West while finishing his studies back East.
After moving to L.A. upon graduation from Julliard, Dickerson quickly embarked on a multi-faceted career. Over the years, he has played in small chamber groups with members of the L.A. Philharmonic as well as scoring, orchestrating, producing and session work for everyone from Mancini, Johnny Mandel and Legrand to Stevie Wonder and Barbra Streisand. He has arranged, conducted and composed for a multitude of TV and film projects, including various Aaron Spelling productions and live gigs with artists like Randy Crawford and Ann Margaret.
