ABOUT STEVE REID

Steve Reid, world renowned percussionist and producer, is a household name to most music enthusiasts. He’s played on over 500 recordings, produced several gold records and was named Jazziz Magazine Percussionist of the Year in 1993. Steve has toured the world extensively as a member of Supertramp and as a current member of the Rippingtons, one of the most successful contemporary jazz groups of the decade.

After graduating from the college of music at the University of Colorado and studying privately with several Cuban percussionists, Reid teamed up with the chart topping group Bell and James. Over the next few years, Reid performed on a wide variety of recordings for RCA, CBS, Motown and MCA until, in 1984, he co-founded the Rippingtons and recorded the first Russ Freeman record, Nocturnal Playground.

Over the next decade, Reid and the Rippingtons toured the world extensively and recorded five Top 5 and three Number 1 records on the Billboard charts. In 1987 he joined Supertramp in time for their Live in Europe release and tour which continued into 1988. Since then he has built his own state-of-the-art-recording facility and has recorded, mixed, produced and written material for a who’s who list of contemporary musicians.

In recent years, Reid has worked in film and television, released Bamboo Forest, his first solo album, and acted as the sound designer for the Rolling Stones’ Voodoo Lounge CD-ROM. He has also continued to participate in the recordings of artists such as Dave Koz, En Vogue, Stanley Jordan, Dave Benoit and Miles Davis.

Steve Reid made his debut on Telarc Jazz Zone with the release of his second solo album, Water Sign.
