"elbow continues to pursue something increasingly rare in popular music: dynamics... elbow lets its music breathe and show its natural state." The Wall Street Journal
"elbow managed to be both epic and intimate." QRO Magazine
"You may wish to buckle your seatbelt before listening to The Take Off and Landing of Everything." Under The Radar Magazine
"The Take Off and Landing of Everything is as ambitious and dramatic a record as elbow has made, luxuriating in sweeping theatrics and gut-wrenching, heavily poetic lyrics." Portland Mercury
Manchester's five-piece, "prog-rock powerhouse" elbow (San Francisco Examiner) have just wrapped their largest North American tour in over six years, playing to sold-out venues packed with supporters and fans eager to be part of the band's triumphant stateside return. Their 12-date North American tour-which included an appearance at the Sasquatch Music Festival in Washington-culminated yesterday with another sold-out performance at The Wiltern in Los Angeles.
During their tour stop in New York City, elbow performed the lead single "New York Morning" from their panoramic sixth studio album, The Take Off and Landing of Everything, on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The song, which was partly inspired by a diary entry penned by lead singer Guy Garvey during an extended stay in Brooklyn and Manhattan, "pays homage to the cultural and intellectual bustle of New York City" (Renowned for Sound) and has received high praise from critics and fans alike.
Before their performance on The Tonight Show, Garvey and keyboardist/producer Craig Potter sat down with videographers and created "How We Wrote That Song," a video interview explaining the history and story behind the popular single. Watch the video HERE.
The Take Off and Landing of Everything, which was released in March, has scored an impressive Billboard Chart debut, entering at #1 in the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, and reached their highest Top 200 chart positioning in the US. The album also reached #1 in the Official UK Charts and continues to dominate charts across Europe.
