Friday night at LA Live it really was alive with our very own N'dambi doing a sizzlin set at the Conga Room. Altho not even using her own band N'dambi connected with the crowd immediately. As the man who will promote her 1st single "Cant Hardly Wait" I must share the excitement I felt when the crowd (having never heard the single before) began singing along with the chorus !!! N'dambi sounded great and looked even better. She is a real talent and will be busy throughout the rest of the year. Make a point to see her as soon as you can!
Saturday it was CityWalk (if you remember how crowded it was last time you went multiply that times 5:->) and there in the shadow of the Hard Rock Cafe was Anjulie exuding as much confidence and command as I have ever seen. Her look was on point, her interplay with the crowd was cute and most of all her voice was in fine form revealing a few new tricks that I hadnt heard before.....the crowd tho not huge responded nicely and she sold a decent amount of product after the show. Anj gets closer and closer every show to fully realizing her potential and it is sooooooo xciting to watch!
Closing out the weekend it was as nice a setting as there is in Southern Cali, Rainbow Lagoon Park in Long Beach, where over the course of the weekend 10's of thousands came to hear some of the best music in the world. CMG was well represented with Norman Brown, Ramsey Lewis, Marc Antoine, Paul Brown, Hiroshima & closing out the show, two of the soon to be legendary "Sisters of STAX" Leela James & Angie Stone!
Leela wowed the crowd as usual with her extraordinarily soulful voice and her grip on the crowd eventually had more than 30 of them up on stage with her....amazing! Leela simply does not give up until she has the audience involved in the show....early in her set the crowd was a lil laid back, but with all her wile and guile...not to mention soul, Leela prevailed. Angie closed the show and while most of the crowd had been there for more than 8 hours, very few were prepared to give up their blankets and ice chests, let alone their prime seats! With her brand new band Angie rocked the crowd with a set that featured a tasty sampling of her renowned catalog and hits from her STAX debut "The Art of Love and War" She set up her new single and forthcoming CD nicely and all evening long had the crowd in the palm of her hand.
We sent a real message this weekend here in California ....and that message says Concord Music Group represents some of the most dynamic and captivating talent on the music scene today...from our young "divas" to the polished soul stars, to the jazz masters, we are bringing it in a BIG WAY!
